Papers of James Mason Grove [manuscript], 1944-1946.

Grove, a lieutenant in the Transportation Corps, recorded his last two war-time voyages to Europe in the S.S. John Chandler and the S.S. Frederick C. Howe. In his daily entries are accounts of the torpedoing of two merchant ships near the Straits of Gibraltar and of trouble with pilferage. A later log, 1945-1946, records his duties as commanding officer on U.S. troop trains. With these logs are notes by Grove regarding them, orders, a service certificate and a clipping on the American advance on Pisa.
